Help me tell the story…
We’re facing a major shift in the way buyers and sellers perceive real estate agents and home loans, and we need to take a stronger stand.
We’ve both become really good at helping our buyers get into homes quickly. But I think it’s time that we change the narrative a bit. We’ve found that most homebuyers spend months considering a move. Yet when the time comes to buy, they treat a home purchase like buying a car, or something off Amazon. Online retailers are peddling the belief that purchasing a home is as simple as a buy-now button, with little need for professional support, advice, and preparation. Have you seen the latest Zillow, Realtor.com, and Rocket Mortgage ads?
On your end, there’s a lot of value that you bring to a homebuyer, especially when you have the time to help them prepare for a purchase, and if they currently own, to help them sell. Understanding which homes are available and current market values is just the start. Planning and executing a good sell and purchase process can make the difference in thousands of dollars saved or earned, and a lot less stress on everyone’s part.
On our end, buyers that plan their home purchase several weeks or months in advance are in a much better position to save money and get their offer accepted. This preparation can also dramatically reduce the time and effort needed once they go under contract. Yet online retailers are causing buyers to question the value that you and I bring to a home investment, and this new narrative is not just hurting our value offering, it’s causing homeowners to make less informed decisions and costly mistakes.
We need to become a stronger voice for smarter and more informed decisions in residential real estate. When I speak with a buyer about a loan, I commit to sharing your value as a professional real estate agent. Successfully brokering a home sell and purchase is so much more than people are being led to believe!
As a reminder, here are some key points why applying for a home loan with Academy Mortgage, well in advance of making an offer, is in the best interest of our clients. I hope you will help me tell this story to buyers, and refer them to me (or your Academy LO) as early in the process as possible.
- Many of our clients are less prepared than they think when they apply for a home loan at the last minute. Since no one wants them to lose the home they found, some buyers end up settling for loan conditions that are less desirable. Starting the process early gives us more opportunity to get the buyer into the best program, with the best terms.
- A pre-qualification letter from Academy Mortgage that confirms all loan information and documents makes their offer stronger, which is a great advantage when there are multiple offers. And once an offer is accepted, the time to close is usually much quicker and with less surprises.
- Many buyers have misconceptions about down payment, credit, and other loan requirements. Starting the process early helps buyers know what they need to buy a home.
So please, let’s squash this notion that buying or selling a house is for any Joe who can navigate a website and shopping cart. Taking a risk with hundreds of thousands of dollars is not for the uninformed or unprepared!
